What different types of Dental Bridges are there?

Generally, there are three types of bridges that can be used, and your dentist will make an informed decision about which one would be the best for you:

Traditional Bridges
These will require you to have a crown placed on one or both adjacent teeth, either side of the gap, to hold the false tooth in place.
Maryland Resin Bonded Bridges
The replacement tooth has a metal wing attached to it. This is strongly bonded onto the back of your adjacent supporting tooth. The wing is completely hidden restoring your natural smile.
Implant-retained Bridges
Implants are used as support instead of your natural teeth.

What does the procedure involve?

First, your Dentist will assess your teeth, ask questions, take x-rays as needed and confirm if a Dental Bridge is the ideal choice for you. From there the procedure is usually completed over two appointments.

At the first appointment, the teeth on either side of the bridge will be prepared to the correct shape, and then we will then take an impression or scan of the teeth so that the bridge can be made. You will be given a temporary bridge until your next appointment.

At your second appointment, the temporary bridge will be removed and replaced with the permanent bridge. Adjustments may be made to ensure good fit and comfort.

How do I take care of my bridge?

The better you take care of your crowns and bridges, the longer they will last in your mouth. You should brush twice a day as well as interproximal cleaning and regular hygienist visits and dental check-ups. This will help to avoid any kind of infection that could lead to tooth loss in the future.

You should find that your bridge allows you to eat and speak more comfortably, therefore having a positive impact on your overall quality of life.

Good clean and welcoming dental practice. I took both of my children to get their teeth checked during the children's day during the half-term. They had colouring, face painting, children's TV shows , balloon, gift bags and very understanding staff. I would recommend this dental practice. As a Specialist Oral surgeon I’m lucky that I’ve not needed much Dentistry. I think we surgeons make the worst patients. I recently cracked a virgin tooth, the crack had propagated into the nerve. I’ve never know pain like it. Kreena has been a colleague that I have admired from afar and consulted a few times. For me there was only one choice. 7 hour round trip from Leicester to Brigstock to see this amazingly talented young lady. She is a consummate professional and excellent at her job. Saw Mr Hussain, the new dentist. I started off by explaining that I have a real fear of dentists, he was absolutely fantastic, explained what he was doing and then discussed what we could do with a particular tooth. Couldn’t be more impressed with this dentist surgery. First visit was for wisdom tooth extraction. I had gum disease and was referred to the hygienist for treatment.I met with this amazing, wonderful and lovely lady Nusarat Jahan who treated me with respect and love.
